Episode Four: Cordovas
In episode four we talk with Joe Firstman and Lucca Soria, two of the primary songwriters for Nashville based band Cordovas. We discuss Mexico, scientology, dropping pennies from the 151st floor penthouse of Tell You What! Towers, and lots and lots of music stuff.
Rolling Stone says of Cordovas, "Caught halfway between Duane Allman's Telecaster twang, the Dead's hazy harmonies and the stoned swoon of California's folk-rock heyday, Cordovas wring new life from older influences, hoisting their freak flag high..." Joe Firstman first hit the music scene as a singer songwriter signed to Atlantic Records, releasing several highly praised albums. He then spent five years as the house band leader on late night television show Last Call with Carson Daly before landing in Nashville and starting up Cordovas. Lucca Soria is a sharply talented songwriter still in his early twenties. They had a lot of insights to share in our discussion about the craft of songwriting, writing and creating as a group (the band shares living quarters in Nashville and spends several months each year together in Mexico) and the magic of live performance. Their new album, That Sante Fe Channel, produced by Kenneth Pattengale of Milk Carton Kids, is out now on ATO Records and is a gem.
